So, it's a month into the WIN 10 release, and if you haven't already downloaded it, you're probably thinking about it right? Well, you may want to read this first. Here's some issues we've either discovered for ourselves, or read about in the forums.
* WINDOWS FORCES YOU TO ACCEPT UPDATES.
OK, so a lot of you may say "So what. At least my computer will be up to date right?" Well, although this is partially true, It also allows Microsoft to download any other rubbish/bloatware/adware/junkware onto your machine. Every other OS prior to 10 has given the user the option to accept or deny updates, or even turn them off if they like. This all seems a bit suss to me. Some of these updates are also causing system crashes and even the dreaded "Blue screen of Death"
* WIFI PASSWORD SHARING
Wi-Fi Sense is a new piece of software that enables you to share your Wi-Fi network access to all your contacts...EVEN FACEBOOK Contacts! Turn this off, It's ridiculous. Wi-Fi > Network Settings > Manage Wi-Fi settings and uncheck all the boxes.
* "Printer Not Responding"
Some printers, especially the cheaper all in one's are having major compatibility issues with WIN 10. Microsoft is currently working in association with all the major printer manufacturers and hopefully should have most problems resolved in the near future. If you are having issues, you may need to upgrade your printer to one that is WIN 10 compliant.
If you are using WIN MAIL as your email client, then you are in for a few nasty surprises. Some folders are not moving across with the WIN 10 upgrade, and we've heard in some cases, complete folders are disappearing altogether! We'd suggest using outlook or thunderbird for the time being.
This browser which is a complicated beast in its own right, is particularly buggy under the WIN 10 OS. People are complaining about it crashing or not displaying correctly especially with FLASH content (Youtube etc).
Microsoft don't seem particularly perplexed about this, probably because they would rather everyone use their own browser "EDGE" which is new in WIN 10. I'm certain that the good folks at Google will get these issues resolved over the coming weeks. If you are having issues, I would suggest you uninstall/reinstall the Chrome browser as a first fix attempt.
* MICROSOFT EDGE
This is the new browser. It's awful. Apart from being plagued with popups, it also won't stream music when minimised. This is really annoying and there is no fix for it at the moment. It also has major issues with AMD GPU's...You can download I.E. 11, and I would strongly suggest you do this.
SUMMING UP - If you are considering this upgrade, I would encourage you to wait for another few months until the bugs are ironed out. Don't wait too long though, as it's only free for a year, then it will cost you $119.00
